Reports To: PRINCIPAL

*Location: VARIES BASED ON ASSIGNMENT

Compensation:

Commensurate with salary range on the DCPS certified salary schedule

Hours Per Day: 7.0 HOURS PER DAY

Contracted Days: VARIES BASED ON ASSIGNMENT

 

QUALIFICATIONS

Required:

Hold valid Kentucky Principal Certification or Statement of Eligibility

 

Preferred:

Previous school-level teaching experience

Experience establishing work-ready programs

Knowledge of special education process and services

Knowledge of PBIS as a component of MTSS

Knowledge of Trauma-Informed practices and Restorative Practices

Demonstrated successful experience mentoring and coaching teachers

 

Knowledge Of:

Proficient computer skills including use of mouse and keyboard to navigate computer, e-mail, and websites.

Microsoft Office Suite

Google Suite

Subject matter in the area of assignment.

Short and long-range planning techniques applicable to areas of specialty.

Record-keeping techniques.

Communication and interpersonal skills using tact, patience, and courtesy.

Research methods and report writing techniques.

Laws, rules and regulations related to assigned activities.

Policies and objectives of assigned program and activities.

Principles of training and providing work direction

Technical aspects of the field of specialty.

 

 

JOB DESCRIPTION

Job Summary:

The Assistant Principal, under the direction of and as assigned by the Principal, directs, supervises, and evaluates the instructional programs and the work of all assigned personnel, maintains pupil welfare and desirable school community relations, and develops and executes building rules, regulations and procedures consistent with general policies.  The Assistant Principal for Alternative Schools directs the work-ready initiatives helping to establish strong community partnerships to ensure students are career ready when they graduate.  

 

Essential Functions, Duties and Responsibilities:

Enforces District policies and procedures.
Assists with coordination and interpretation of state and District testing programs at the school level.
Assists in enforcing appropriate state and federal regulations, school board policies, and administrative directives.
Assist with planning of classes and scheduling within established local and state guidelines.
Collaborates with staff to assist in the development, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of the school’s goals.
Oversees the career readiness efforts of the alternative school. 
Carry-out and maintain records for student discipline.
Assists in planning, implementing, and evaluating professional development.
Assists in the integration of curriculum standards, instructional practice, and implementation of authentic assessment experiences.
Engages in rigorous data analysis, results planning, and Multi-Tiered System of Supports.
Organizes and administers the school attendance program under direction of the Principal.
Implements a work ready program including but not limited to establishing community partnerships, providing job ready skill development, and overseeing work study and internship programs.
Assists with the development, observation, and evaluation of the instructional program in the school and assists in observation and evaluation of school personnel and support services.
Assists in continuous program planning though budgeting, needs assessment, and staffing.
Performs general administrative and supervisory duties in total operation of school and assumes responsibilities for general administration of the school in the absence of the Principal.
Plan, organize and direct specific school activities as assigned by the Principal.
Coordinate and supervise support services such as custodial, food service, financial, etc. as assigned by the Principal.
Provide leadership to the school’s co-curricular and extracurricular activities.
Evaluates and counsel staff on individual performance as assigned by the Principal.
Coordinate with other district-level departments to meet the needs of the school.
